Banana Republic of the 80's, does anyone remember it or know of a similar store?

Back in the late 1970's early 80's, Banana Republic was a store that stocked mostly Euro / Israeli army-surplus, Indian cottons, and other great stuff !! It was NOT a Old-Navy, A&F, Hollister-esque megastore catering to the young and shallow !!

Does anyone know of anything similar to what Banana Republic WAS ??

  1. I was thinking I was halucinating or something when I went into a Banana Republic store a couple of years ago, because your description is what I had thought the store would be like, but wow, it is a haven for the culturally shallow.  I think you will have a hard time finding anything like it.  Do you remember those cheesy little catalogs they published?

  2. I have wondered this myself....I will keep checking back on this one! Sorry I couldn't help.

  3. For vintage 1980s Banana Republic visit website:

    http://www.thefind.com/apparel/info-bana...

    OR

Banana Republic does have a CURRENT website so you could look at that.

    www.bananarepublic.com

Scroll all the way down to the bottom and in the first column second row it says store locator.

  4. I cannot think of anything off hand, but BR does still have clothes that are reminiscent of those types of clothes. If you look hard enough you will be able to find what your looking for. there is always ebay.

  5. none
