Is it true that spiders inject their eggs and hide them in the bottom of bananas to keep them safe until they hatch?

  1. Im not sure. All I know is im really scared of spiders and I don't like going near banana crates in the supermarket cause when you hear in the news 'women find massive spider in banana crate'. I don't want to be that woman.

  2. There are thousands of species of spiders.  I haven't heard of one that specifically uses banana plants for this purpose, but there's no reason to suppose they wouldn't lay their eggs there (they have no ovipositor, so they can't inject them anywhere), given the opportunity.  I wouldn't worry about them, though.  There are only a handful of dangerous species of spider, the banana skin would prevent anything getting to the fruit itself, and the three week journey in a refrigerated ship will neutralise any unwelcome passengers!
