Band on Titanic - did they play to the end?

I was watching a documentary on the Titanic and a couple of survivors claim that the band did NOT play while the ship was sinking. I know several survivors claim that they played "Nearer, My God, To Thee". And this is indicated in movies about the Titanic. What do you think?

  1. They played "Nearer,My god, to thee" as the sink sank but listening to survivors has found to be not credible for instant some say that Captain Smith commited suicide when by gunshot when he actually sank with the ship. Another surivior said Ben Guggenheim died while asleep while the true fact is that Guggenheim was actually on the deck dressed in night wear with his wife as the sink sank. Others believed they say White Star Line's owner Bruce Ismay dressed in womens clothing to board one of the lifeboats but that too was found not to be credible becuase of stories varying on the facts. Bruce Ismay did return on lifeboat but when the suriviors were found by the Carpathia on April 16th, 1912 Ismay was wearing male clothes. Agian the horrible event that took place could have changed people's perceptions of what really took place. The band did play that song but not all the way until the ship sunk.

  2. According to most survivors, they did play while the ship was sinking. Maybe some survivors did not hear them with all the other noise that must have been going on, or they were too panicked themselves to take notice.

I'm sure, in the last few minutes, the band members would have tried to save themselves, and stopped playing; maybe this is what the nay-sayers meant.
