Anyone on here familiar with this area? It's in the rockies in Alberta. They all look beautiful, but which one is best? I can chose out any of those places to go for my working holiday. Also, how cold does it get there in winter approximately?

  1. Banff is definitely the place you want to be, and then you still are able to travel to nearby Lake Louise (45mins) or Jasper (3.5hrs) to see the sights there.

    Canada uses Celcius as well.

Winter temperatures can get down past 30 below celcius, however this is usually only for a week or less.

Usually winter daytime temperatures are in the -14 to -2 range.

It definitely is amazing living in a National Park though - as I type this there are 6 coyotes howling about 70 yards away from me.  I saw a herd of 90-120 elk today (in town!!).  3 Days ago I spotted a Grizzly and her 2 cubs.  But for now, I'm concentrating on the ski season which still has 1.5 months to go!

Any other questions feel free to ask me - I am from Banff.

  2. Banff/Lake Louise is much better.   It's close to Calgary and all sorts of things to do and see.

Jasper is beautiful and worth a trip up there for sure but is more isolated and a long ways from any city.

Canada uses Celsius.   I think only the US is  fahrenheit anymore, but I could be wrong.   This site will show you the averages.

It can get down to -32C but isn't often that cold.   -12C is the average in the mountains.   It's much warmer often in Calgary because of the chinook winds.

  3. I think Lake Louise would be simpler to find a place to live in.  Banff an Jasper are national parks and I think you need to have a full time job before they let you rent a place.  But lots of people do find jobs there.  It will get down to minus twenty or thirty in the winter.  It could stay that could for a few days at a time.
