Bangalore rock Guyana with nine-wicket win
The Royal Challengers Bangalore routed the Guyana side in the fifth match of the Champions League T20, 2010 at Centurion on Sunday. Bangalore won by nine wickets but with more than seven overs to spare, and took full points in the process.
The Bangalore side won the toss and decided to field first. The Guyana openers made a decent start as they did not lose a single wicket in the first four overs, against the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Praveen-Kumar-c82600 – both of whom love such swinging and seaming tracks.
However, it was at the start of the fifth over where things started to go wrong for the Guyana side. Praveen bowled a slower bouncer that was hooked away by Travis Dowlin to the short fine-leg where Steyn took a comfortable catch. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sewnarine-Chattergoon-c89221 prodded on, along with his captain Ramnaresh Sarwan to take the Guyana total to 34/1 in the sixth over. However, Sarwan then hit a six off Jacques Kallis before attempting to cut the ball and got out.
The rest of the side had no answers to the swing of Kallis and the rather miserly spin of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737. Kallis went on to claim two more wickets from Jonathon Foo and Derwin Christian, whereas Kumble had one scalp but bowled his four overs for ten runs. None of the lower-order batsmen could get the side out of the rut that they found themselves in, and the side was bowled out for 103.
The one chance that Guyana had of making a match out of this was to ensure that they got some quick early wickets. But the two stalwarts of international cricket, Kallis and Rahul Dravid, ensured that the opposition met with almost no success till the end. The pair added 78 runs for the first wicket and by the time Royston Crandon had got rid of Dravid, the match was all over bar the shouting.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robin-Uthappa-c2356 warmed himself nicely for the matches to come with a well-made eight-ball 25 as the side won by nine wickets. Kallis remained unbeaten on 43 to go with his three-wicket haul and was named the man of the match.
At the post-match presentation, captain Kumble said: “Perfect game. The first couple of overs were critical. Once Sarwan was out cheaply, the pressure was on them. The thought was always there [to boost the net run-rate], but you needed solid platform too. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 and Kallis did just that, for Robin to be able to tee off.”
