Bangalore will host India-England match – ICC
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that Bangalore will be hosting the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 vs. England World Cup match that was originally being held in Kolkata.
“This decision now clarifies and gives us certainty over the fixture, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719, the ICC chief executive was quoted as saying in a statement released on the ICC official website.
It was speculated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had recommended Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium as an alternative for the Group B match between India and England to be held on 27 February, 2011.
“We can now work with our various partners and stakeholders to ensure that the match (India vs. England), along with the rest of tournament, is all it should be”, Lorgat read in a statement.
The ICC barred Eden Gardens, Kolkata, last week from hosting the World Cup fixture, fearing the under-construction venue would not be ready in time.
Amidst concerns regarding the preparedness of the stadium, the ICC’s inspection team along with some “unanimous opinions of the experts”, the inspection team came to the conclusion that the stadium will not be ready by the deadline.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karnataka-c801 State Cricket Association (KSCA) would be gaining from the last minute switch as all the matches scheduled in Bangalore featured minnows. The home team previously had only one match and are pitted against Ireland.

It was reported on ICC’s official website that the sport’s governing body had sent a letter to the BCCI where it was listed a scheduled of the outstanding works required at Eden Gardens. The venue will also be hosting the fixtures scheduled on 15 (Ireland
vs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391.
However, the ICC has directed the BCCI to make sure the venue will be ready according to the given schedule. It is reported that the inspection team will visit Kolkata again on 7 February to analyze that the progress is in line with the schedule.
Lorgat made it clear that until and unless the pending work “Meets all the ICC requirements”, the other four matches could also be moved to alternative venues.
The World Cup that is being co-hosted by India along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 in October
2010.
However, it remains to be seen whether the iconic stadium abides by ICC’s schedule or bears the brunt of the lack of construction work.
