Dhaka Metropolis 201/ 274 v Rajshahi Division 404/72 - Rajshahi Division won by 9 wickets
On Wednesday, December 21, 2011 Rajshahi Division beat Dhaka Metropolis by nine wickets in their National Cricket League four-day match at Sylhet Stadium.
Dhaka, resumed their second innings on the final day, after having amassed 187 runs for the loss of four wickets, at stumps on the third day of play.
Dhaka, required a steady batting performance from their remaining batsmen in order to draw the match, however, Rajshahi were in no mood to let the match end without a result as they had played well and dominated their opposition throughout the fixture, deserving a victory.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marshall-Ayub-c74819 who had piled 61 and 22 runs a day earlier, were their side’s only hope of forging a resilient stand against all odds.
The two batsmen, had a tremendous responsibility on their shoulders and were up to speed to give a befitting performance for their side.
The duo prevented Rajshahi bowlers from making inroads early in the day, by playing well crafted shots to subdue the opponents.
At the time the two batsmen were on the crease, it seemed as if Dhaka were in fact heading for an ultimate draw, which would have been an achievement for the side considering their submissive play in the match.
However, the fairytale partnership came to an end when at the tally of 214; Dhaka lost the wicket of Ayub, who was removed by Farhad Reza after hammering a commendable knock of 43 runs.
With Ayub back in the pavilion, the rest of the batting line-up crumbled like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Berg-c1457 as Rajshahi bowlers unleashed a barrage of outstanding bowling, disintegrating Dhaka’s batting into oblivion.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mehrab-Hossain-jnr-c75571, was Dhaka’s last wicket to fall at 274 runs after the batsman played a courageous knock of 101 runs.
Needing just 72 runs to win, Rajshahi, had their eyes set on the prize as they started their batting with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Farhad-Reza-c56788 to steer their side to victory in 10.3 overs.
