Dhaka Metropolis took a lead of 242 runs over Sylhet Division after posting 376 runs in their second innings on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in the ongoing four-day match between the two sides at Sylhet Stadium.
Earlier, after ending the second day of the match by posting 47 runs on the board without losing a wicket in their second innings, Dhaka seemed in a comfortable position and stamped their superiority in the match by batting superbly against their rivals.
The overnight batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arman-Hossain-c45456 and Mohammad Forkan, rallied to continue their commendable form as the duo gave an exuberant performance while facing the toothless bowling attack by Sylhet.
The opening batsmen smashed 68 runs together, before Forkan lost his wicket in the 16th over after playing an important innings of 33 runs off 40 deliveries.
Next to go was Hossain, who fell after amassing 34 runs. At the time of his departure, Dhaka had managed to post 79 runs on the board.
Dhaka were a different side in their second innings by exhibiting impressive form as opposed to their first innings play, where the team could only bolster 129 runs.
With both openers back in the pavilion, middle-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Shamsur-Rahman-c77337 took charge as the batsmen countered the Sylhet bowlers.
The batsmen played shots all around the park, reducing the bowling attack to rubble.
While the batsmen were flying high, Sylhet bowlers were losing patience, as they needed wickets to halt Dhaka from taking a big lead against them.
Ahmed and Rahman scored 155 runs in the third-wicket partnership by smashing astounding knocks of 82 and 93 runs.
With 234 runs on the board, the partnership finally came to an end, when Ahmed was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Enamul-Haque-jnr-c56009 in the 54th over.
Later, Rahman fell in the 62 over, when he was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imtiaz-Hossain-c64283, off the bowling of Haque. At the time of his demise, Dhaka had posted 263 runs on the board.
Sylhet’s misery was still not over, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marshall-Ayub-c74819 crafted another batting resistance by avoiding the fall of the another wicket at stumps.
The two batsmen are still batting on 64 and 57 runs, and look well set to bat without remorse on the final day of the game.
On the other hand, Sylhet will need to dismiss Dhaka early in the day, to create a winnable situation in the match which seems to be heading for a draw.
