An unbeaten half-century by Liton Das guided the Bangladesh Under-19s safely to a comfortable 7-wicket win over the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-John-Parnell-Burge-c81760 Oval in Brisbane today on August 16.
The Namibia U-19s won the toss and elected to bat first, with Wian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naeem-Islam-c2053 (10-2-19-2) intervened to
send both batsmen packing – van Vuuren in the 14th over, and Myburgh in the 22nd over.
Skipper Stephan Baard top-scored for his side with 40, in addition to setting up a 48-run stand with Zhivago Groenewald (19) after wicketkeeper batsman Gerhard Erasmus (2) was dismissed by Noor Hossain.
The partnership was broken up in the 37th over, with Groenewald caught and bowled by Al-Amin, and Baard followed him back to the pavilion in the very next over, bowled by Taskin Ahmed (9.4-1-29-2).
The remaining Namibian batsmen failed to apply themselves at the crease. Malan Kruger (11) and Bredell Wessells (11) were both dismissed by Abu Jayed (8-1-29-3), and Jason Davidson (12) who followed remained the only other batsman to reach double digits.
The Namibia U-19s eventually finished at 151, all out.
The chase, however, posed no problem for the Bangladesh U-19s, courtesy Liton Das’ consistent performance at the top.
Opening for his side, the right-hander drove his team’s innings with an unbeaten score of 70. A 31-run partnership with fellow opener Soumya Sarkar (16) came to an end in the 5th over, with the latter’s dismissal at the hands of Davidson.
Das then went on to set up a 57-run stand with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asif-Ahmed-c46454 chipped in with a 13-run contribution, which formed part of
his 33-run stand with Das.
Ahmed’s wicket was the last to fall (at the hands of Wessells), and his successor Al-Amin (17*) joined Das in an unbeaten 34-run partnership, which got the team safely up to 155, with 7 wickets and 78 deliveries remaining.
