Propelled by skipper Anamul Haque’s century, the Bangladesh Under-19s succeeded in clinching a 5-wicket win over the Pakistan Under-19s, during their ICC Under-19 World Cup 7th Place Play-off, at Endeavour Park No 2 in Townsville on August 24.
The Bangladesh U-19s won the toss and elected to field first. The Pakistan U-19s’ top order collapsed completely, and although the middle order attempted to make amends, their efforts were not enough in the face of Taskin Ahmed (10-1-80-3), Dewan Sabbir
(9-1-38-2), and Al-Amin (10-1-28-2).
Sami Aslam (8) and Imam-ul-Haq (1) were both dismissed after registering paltry scores, while skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Azam-c1122 and wicketkeeper batsman Umar Waheed only managed 17 runs each. The middle order made a brave attempt to revive the innings, with Faraz Ali
(43) and Mohammad Nawaz (who top-scored for the side with 82) setting up a 6th-wicket 37-run stand, which got the team up to 118.
Faraz Ali was dismissed in the 36th over, run out by Soumya Sarkar, but Shahid Ilyas (44) kept the momentum going, setting up a 67-run stand with Mohammad Nawaz. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Ilyas was sent back to the pavilion by Taskin Ahmed in the 48th
over, and Mohammad Nawaz proceeded to team up with Ehsan Adil (8*) for a 50-run stand.
Their partnership came to an end on the very last delivery of the final over, with the dismissal of Mohammad Nawaz by Taskin Ahmed, and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 U-19s posted a final total of 235.
The chase posed no trouble for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Nawaz-c77155 (10-0-48-2) and Ehsan Adil (10-1-32-2), they managed to easily reach 239 at the expense of 5 wickets.
The partnership between openers Litton Das (53) and Soumya Sarkar (10) only yielded 19 runs, after which the latter was caught out by Saad Ali off Mir Hamza. However, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anamul-Haque-c44160 drove the chase forward with a massive 128, becoming the first batsman
to register two triple-digit scores in the tournament. His massive 179-run 2nd-wicket partnership with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Litton-Kumar-Das-c73018 got the team up to 198, and by the time the skipper himself was dismissed, the team total had swelled to 217.
With only a few runs remaining between the team and victory, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 (8*) provided their side the extra momentum they needed to comfortably reach 239, with 5 wickets and 22 balls remaining.
