According to sources, PCB is ready to support the nomination of the Bengali candidate for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) vice-presidency, provided BCB agrees to send its national side to Pakistan next year.
Following ICC’s rotation policy to appoint its vice-president, both the courtiers are supposed to nominate their joint candidate for the post till December, 31, 2011.
However, the governing body of cricket in Pakistan has been trying to compel BCB to agree with the nomination of a Pakistani native.
On the other hand, Bangladeshi board was not supportive of Pakistan’s stance, as they wanted a Bengali citizen to take over the charge.
Meanwhile, PCB has been striving to resume cricket in the country, as no foreign team is ready to tour Pakistan after the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team’s bus in March 2009, in Lahore.
A few days ago, PCB’s chairman, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mustafa-Kamal-c78122 had a detailed meeting to discuss the matter in Dubai.
Apparently, at the moment, both the boards are in contact with each other to finalise a deal between them, which can pave the way to resume cricket in Pakistan; whereas, consequently BCB is eyeing to get the ICC’s vice-presidency.
However, Reportedly, PCB asked the cricket authority in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 to provide them a written commitment in this regard, as both the boards have seldom been able to maintain friendly ties.
Earlier, BCB refused to send its national side Pakistan to play a One Day series following the terrorist attack.
Meanwhile, they also showed reservations to support PCB on the matter of hosting the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011’s matches in Pakistan, by overplaying security concerns.
The way BCB reacted over scheduling World Cup matches in Pakistan, irked PCB’s former boss, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 to put up a protest during ICC’s meeting before the mega event.
Pakistan and Bangladesh faced each other last time in a complete series in 2008, when the Bengali tigers visited their neighbors to play ODIs.
Last year, the Men in Green were supposed to visit Bangladesh; however, the tour was called off following the busy schedule.
