Losing the first two ODIs against Bangladesh at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imtiaz-Sheikh-c64290 Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna, West Indian Captain Darren Sammy feels the home team assessed the conditions better and adjusted accordingly after playing the Test series.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 won both the tosses, deciding to bat first in the initial game and to field in the second. However, the outcomes weren’t any different. Defeated by 7 wickets in the first game and by a huge margin of 160 runs in the next (their third largest
defeat in terms of runs), Sammy feels the West Indian batsmen need to be more selective in their approach.
“We have to take the pitch out of the book, if we are to win the next one and the two after that. Bangladesh have played some good cricket and are showing us how to play one-day cricket on these pitches. They have assessed these conditions well and played
accordingly,” said Sammy.
Being two down in the five-match series, West Indies need a major shift in their strategy if they are to make a comeback in the series.
“It is probably a good wake-up call for us and we'll come back harder. We are 2-0 down but we're not out. It would not be a wise thing to count us out because we have been in similar situations before and we have bounced back,” Sammy added.
Holding the batsmen responsible for the poor showing in the two games, Sammy believes the players were not selective enough with their shots at the start of their innings. The West Indian skipper feels the batsmen gave their wickets away instead of making
the opposition work hard to earn them.
The T20 champions have great players in their line-up who can score runs for their side, but lack of patience to see off the new ball and trying to slog the Bengali bowlers is what led to their defeats in the two matches.
The third ODI is scheduled at Dhaka. Having identified the mistakes by his side in the first two games, the West Indian skipper believes a change in the venue will further aid his team in making a comeback.
