Bangladesh beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 by 6 wickets to keep quarter-final hopes alive – ICC World Cup 2011
Bangladesh overcame the Netherlands convincingly in a Group B match of the ICC World Cup 2011, at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zahur-Ahmed-c98518 Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Monday. The Dutch team was bowled out for 160 runs in 46.2 overs. In reply, the hosts chased down the target
in 41.2 overs with six wickets remaining.
There was moisture beneath the wicket today, and the team winning the toss was expected to field first. However, the visitors had some other plans, as their captain Peter Borren elected to bat. He might have considered the wicket to be slower and lower in
the second half of the game.
The visitors got off to a steady start with their openers Eric Szwarczynski and wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wesley-Barresi-c96487. However, Barresi failed to capitalise on the start, as he got out after adding 10 runs the total.
The visitors promoted http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mudassar-Bukhari-c77863 as their first-drop batsman, but the move didn’t work out for them as planned. Bukhari was sent in to lift the run-rate, but he got out after managing just six runs off 13 balls. The problems continued for the Dutch,
as they lost Szwarczynski in the 23rd over. The opening batsman scored 28 runs from 63 balls and would have liked to score a big one for his team, but he got run-out.
Tom Cooper looked good for his 29 from 41, but he also lost his wicket due to some efficient work in the field, as he was the second batsman to be run-out in the Dutch innings.
Ryan ten Doeschate and Alexei Kervezee then put together a 34-run partnership for the fifth wicket and things looked better for the visitors. However, the fall of Kerveeze triggered a batting collapse, as none of the lower middle-order batsmen were able
to reach double figures.
Kervezee got out after adding 18 runs to the total whereas; ten Doeschate remained unbeaten on 53 off 71 balls. He would have liked some support from the other end, but he just kept on watching wickets tumble at the other end.
Left-arm spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Razzak-c41688 was the pick of the bowlers, as he took three wickets for his team. The rest of the bowlers didn’t have to work hard, as four batsmen gave their wickets away due to some poor running between the wickets.
The start to the innings for the home team was terrible, as they lost opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamim-Iqbal-c2640 in the very first over of the innings. The flamboyant batsman failed to add any run to the total.
However, opener Imrul Keyes and first-drop http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Junaid-Siddique-c1749 rescued their team from trouble, putting together a brilliant 92-run stand for the second wicket. Siddique was out after scoring 35 runs.
The fall of Siddique’s wicket brought Shahrair Nafees, who was playing his first match of the tournament, to the crease. He didn’t disappoint his team, as he constructed a solid 59-run partnership with Keyes. Nafees got out after adding 37 runs to the total,
and was soon followed by captain Shakib-Al-Hasan, who managed only one run in today’s match.
However, wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mushfiqur-Rahim-c2045 and opener Keyes guided their team to victory. The opening batsman remained unbeaten on 73, which earned him the player-of-the-match honour for the second match in a row, while Rahim was not-out on 11 off 12
balls.
Tom http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 won the match easily in the end.
