http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 beats Ireland to open their account at ICC World Cup 2011
Most commentators expected the Irish spinners to take several crucial wickets on the spin friendly tracks but that did not come to pass. Instead the 21-year-old Shafi-ul-Islam, who is an opening bowler for Bangladesh, took four wickets in the match against
Ireland in Mirpur. His outstanding spell inflicted Ireland with a 27-runs defeat. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 Tigers have produced a win that not only gives them hope for the current ICC World Cup 2011 but vindicates their loss at the previous World Cup in Barbados. Even though
both teams have to perform well in their remaining matches in order to reach the quarter-finals of the game, the Bangladesh win is a relief for the squad.
The Irish captain, William Porterfield expressed his disappointment after losing the match and stated, “We would have snapped your hand off if given 206 to chase in 50 at the start of the match (after losing the toss) but we kept losing wickets and you can’t
afford to do that at any level, let alone in the World Cup finals.”
He also added that it was very disturbing for the team to lose a match at the highest level of play, even though their performances with the bat went well during the pre-World Cup warm-up practices. He went on to state that the team has got potential and talent
if it is used in a proper manner; he also said that the players are working hard for success in the ongoing mega tournament.
The most surprising thing which was seen during the match between Ireland and Bangladesh was that both teams had six wickets down at the score of 151. From there onwards, the difference between the two teams was Shafi-ul-Islam, who used all his skills to keep
Irish batsmen at bay. The Irish bowling was quite ordinary in the latter stages.
The losing captain, William Porterfield, depressingly said “I was going to bring back Botha, but TJ (Trent Johnston) had picked up a wicket at the other end and I thought Boyd would have been the best bet to get a wicket, bowling full and straight.” He also
added that it was the poor batting performance which led them down, although their bowling and fielding was good.
Nevertheless, Bangladesh has finally proved themselves as contenders in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011. The Bengal Tigers have a well-balanced squad with some match-winners among their ranks. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamim-Iqbal-c2640, Shafi-ul-Islam, Abdur Razzaq, Junaid Siddiqui and captain
Shakib-al-Hasan are all players to watch out for.
Ireland and Bangladesh are placed in Group B of the ICC world cup 2011 along with England, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 next
on 4th http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 at Dhaka.
