Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza out due to injury
Bangladesh were dealt a severe blow when their captain and fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashrafe-Mortaza-c1917 was ruled out of the rest of the series against New Zealand due to an ankle injury. Mortaza had played the first
ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 at Mirpur in Dhaka and bowled only one over before limping out of the park.
Mortaza’s injury came during the second innings of the game when he twisted his ankle while fielding and had to leave the field. He had earlier scored 15 and bowled only one over in the game.
Mortaza was appointed the captain of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 had taken over the
role of captaincy, but the pressures of leading the side had taken the edge away from Shakib’s batting and bowling. At that stage, Shakib had also been the leading all-rounder in the world according to the ICC Rankings.
So when Mortaza returned back this year to play in the ODIs, the captaincy was returned back to him. Mortaza had the backing of the Bangladeshi coach, Jamie Siddons as well who said that Mortaza would be
the Bangladeshi captain for the World Cup next year.
Shakib has been reappointed as the skipper of the Bangladeshi side for the rest of this series.
There was other bad news for the Bangladeshi side as pace bowler Nazmul Hossain will also miss out the rest of the series due to an injury he sustained in the first game. This will mean that the Bangladeshi
side will be without two of their frontline pace bowlers. In place of Mortaza and Hossain, the selectors have got in left-arm medium-pacer Syed Rasel and pace bowler Dolar Mahmud.
Bangladesh are currently 1-0 up in the series with four more to play.
