Bangladesh Cricket Board has agreed in principle to send its national team to Pakistan early next year and become the first international side to tour the country in almost four years.
Pakistan has become a no-go zone for foreign teams since the Sri Lankan cricket team’s bus was attacked by militants in Lahore in March 2009. The assault left eight people dead and seven visiting players injured.
Bangladesh Cricket Board’s head of cricket operations Enayet Husain Siraj confirmed on Monday that the board has agreed to send the team to the troubled country; however, he made it clear that the trip was subject to security clearance as well as judicial approval.
"We have in principle agreed to tour Pakistan. It's a commitment made by former BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) president http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mustafa-Kamal-c78122. We are keeping his word," Enayet Husain Siraj told AFP today. "The tour is subject to security clearance," he added further.
The Tigers had agreed to tour Pakistan in April this year for a short limited-overs series, but the trip was called off after Dhaka High Court vetoed the itinerary on security grounds.
However, the BCB officials said that they do not see a judicial bar this time around and are only awaiting a security plan from the Pakistan Cricket Board to finalise on the dates of the tour.
"We'll sit with our stakeholders including players and concerned government officials very soon," Jalal http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yunus-c98347, a spokesman for the BCB, told AFP.
The BCB spokesman also revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board has originally proposed a two-match series, comprising an ODI and a T20 International, to take place in Lahore on January 12-13 next year.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan successfully hosted two Twenty20 exhibition matches against World XI in October this year. A number of retired stars from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 featured in those unofficial T20 fixtures.
