Bangladesh hosts Independence Day Volleyball Tournament – Volleyball news
Recently, Bangladesh Volleyball Federation organised a men’s volleyball tournament in its capital city Dhaka.
The volleyball tournament was part of the Independence Day celebrations, as the South Asian Islamic country got its freedom on March 26, 1971.
The tournament was sponsored by KFC and Pizza Hut and it completed its length on Friday, March 30. The Dhaka Volleyball Stadium in Dhaka city created an excellent environment for the Independence Day Volleyball Tournament.
A total of four teams participated in the competition and staged eye-catching action of volleyball. Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, and Border Guard were on board to vie for the KFC-Pizza Hut Independence Day Volleyball title. The final showdown of the
tournament took place on Friday and Bangladesh Army settled for the top position on ranking chart. They defeated Bangladesh Navy with three sets to one. The final set scores were 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-12.
The final match was a heated competition from beginning to end as the score soared up with close gaps. The match started out with a balanced action from both sides. The men’s from Army hit might shots and powerful serves, while Navy squad responded in the
same tone.
They gave a good competition to Army and remained hand in hand with the opponent. There were some moments in the game when the difference of points stretched but then again the two sides came close. Navy hit the mark and claimed opening set by sending 25-23
on board.
Navy won the first frame of the match but could not carry the momentum in the following sets. The loss of first set simply infuriated the Army team and they came up with strong offense in the second set. Navy struggled to tackle the opponent’s strike but
failed to stop Army, which took away second set 25-22. Army remained on the winning route in the next two sets and declared match victory at the end fourth frame.
Elsewhere, Bangladesh Air Force defeated Border Guard Bangladesh in the classification match for 3rd position.
The match was followed by the prize distribution ceremony, which was attended by Managing Director and CEO of KFC and Pizza Hut Akku Chowdhury. He was featured as the chief guest of the ceremony. The President of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation Golam Quddus
Chowdhury Babu accompanied the guest of honour.
Shahjahan of Bangladesh Navy emerged as the most valuable player of the match, whereas Emdad of Bangladesh Army settled for the position of the best attacker. His teammate Prakash Shrestha was named the best blocker of the match. The winning team was awarded
with the title trophy, while successful players of the tournament received different prizes from the chief guest.
