West Indies wicketkeeper batsman Denesh Ramdin feels the pitches in Bangladesh are quite similar to the ones in the Caribbean, and is confident his side will exploit the familiar playing conditions come the opening Test of the two-match series, on Tuesday, November 13.
Presence of two attacking spinners in the West Indies’ touring party, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869 and uncapped Veerasammy Permaul, also gives the gloveman confidence to do well going into the two-Test series.
"The pitches here are similar to a lot of pitches back in the Caribbean. Slow and the ball spins a bit," said Ramdin while speaking to media reporters here in Dhaka, on Tuesday. "It’ll be to our advantage with Sunil Narine and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Veerasammy-Permaul-c94981, who's on debut. If we go into the Test with two spinners, we'll have to try and bowl them out," the Trinidadian added further.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 led West Indies cricket team arrived in Bangladesh on Monday morning, to play a full fledged series, comprising two Tests, five One Day Internationals and a one-off T20 International, against the hosts.
This is West Indies' third full tour of the Bangla nation. The men from Caribbean first visited the Bengali Tigers for a bilateral series in 2002, when the hosts were only in their third year of playing Test cricket, while their last tour to Bangladesh was in 2011. The tourists won the Test series on both the occasions, but banking on their potent pace attack. This is the first time the Caribbean contingent has its hopes attached with the slow bowlers.
Besides two specialist spinners, Narine and Permaul, the visitors also have with them the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/N-Deonarine-c2051.
The opening Test of the two-match series gets underway at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, on Tuesday, November 13.
Replying to a query regarding the Shere Bangla wicket, Ramdin said, "It is a good pitch at the stadium here [Mirpur]."
"The bowlers will give us the wickets, Sunil Narine will be playing here for the first time. The pitches here will assist him and hopefully he'll continue where he left off against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754," added the Trinidadian, a veteran of 174 international matches.
