Bangladesh promises foolproof security in Dhaka on Saturday after fans attacked West Indies team bus
Cricket World Cup authorities have promised improved and tighter security in Dhaka on Saturday as Bangladesh take on flamboyant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
World Cup security director for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, Col. Mesbah Uddin Serniabat told the media reporter on Thursday that "more protective measures" have been put in place ahead of Bangladesh’s must-win game against the Proteas.
This would be the first time Dhaka would be hosting a World Cup match since the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760’ team bus was stoned by fanatic Bangladesh fans after the co-hosts were rolled over for just 58 before the Caribbean side won the match by nine wickets.
Two windows of the bus carrying the West Indies player to the hotel were shattered, however the players remained safe.
It was a cause of concern for the Windies as their aggressive opener, Chris Gayle posted a tweet about the incident asking “what next bullets!!!"
The local police opined that the bus carrying the visitors was mistakenly stoned as the Bangladesh fans thought it was Bangladesh team’s bus.
"What happened after the West Indies match was an isolated incident but we have still made alterations from what we had then," said Serniabt. "We are not taking any chances and will not allow angry or jubilant spectators near the teams.
I am now very confident about the security arrangements that we have put in place," he added further.
A meeting involving the officials from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), local police and the local organising committee of International Cricket Council was held earlier this week to review the security situation.
Serniabat said that according to the security plan the roads on which the teams are expected to travel before and after the match would be kept free of crowds. He further added that crowds would not be allowed to get close to the players
on the streets as well.
The Bengali Tigers have played twice since the attack and have won both times, including upset win over England. Both the games were played in Chittagong.
A victory against the Proteas on Saturday would ensure the co-hosts a berth in the quarter-finals while a defeat would mean an end to Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign.
