Bangladesh proposes series to South Africa – Cricket News Update

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president, Mustafa Kamal, has requested Cricket South Africa (CSA) to play against them in May, and has offered to bear all the cost involved, whether they play in Bangladesh or South Africa.

CSA's acting chief executive, Jacques Faul, has confirmed the offer and revealed that the proposal is under evaluation at the moment as the team is already scheduled for a two-month long tour of England in early July before they participate in the 2012 World
Twenty20 in September.

“We have received the request and we are in the process of checking whether it would be possible. We've got nothing against it, it's just about scheduling. At the moment, I can say it is a request we are looking at," stated Faul.

The CSA chief further mentioned that the final decision regarding the series will be made after consultation with all the stakeholders, including the board members and the team management. However, the team which returned from a month-long tour of New Zealand,
will be given rest ahead of the next season.

"We always want to play cricket and foster cricket but we've got to be careful with how much preparation and how much rest we give our team. It is quite important how we pace the team," said the CSA chief.

It is to be noted that some of the main SA players are busy nowadays in the Indian Premier League, including Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel. The cash-rich tournament will end on May 27, therefore it will be difficult for South
Africa to play with its best eleven even if the series gets approved from both boards.

Similarly, two of the main Bangladeshi players are also playing in the IPL, namely Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan, and their absence will be a setback for the Bengali tigers.

Bangladesh is apparently free till the World Twenty20, and both their expected tours to Pakistan and Zimbabwe are postponed. BCB is therefore keen to keep its players busy in the meanwhile, and playing against a top side such as South Africa will benefit
them hugely to continue with the momentum they gained during the recently concluded Asia Cup 2012.
