The efforts of Pakistani cricket officials to restore international cricket in the country received a fresh jolt on Monday when BCB president, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mustafa-Kamal-c78122, said that his team won’t tour Pakistan unless ICC appoints its officials for the series.
The Pakistani cricket authorities were expecting a decision by the Bangladesh government this week after BCB representatives expressed satisfaction last week over the security arrangements for the proposed series.
International cricket remains suspended in Pakistan after the March 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore, which left several policemen dead while a number of visiting players were injured. The incident triggered suspension of all future International
matches in the country including the World Cup 2011 contests which Pakistan was supposed to host.
"We won't go if everything doesn't happen within the standard practice, which is the allocation of match-referees, umpires and all things by the ICC," remarked Kamal without mincing any words.
Earlier the ICC had expressed its willingness to provide passive support to the series by allowing non-neutral umpires for the tournament. Both BCP and PCB had sought approval from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
The Bangladeshi cricket officials who had initially lent strong support by giving a green signal to the security arrangements in Pakistan appear to be drifting away now.
“I am the president of the BCB and also the president of the Asian Cricket Council, in that sense I have a dual responsibility, and yes I do want cricket to happen in Pakistan but it all depends on many issues - security, the ICC's views and the government's
approval. The discussions are on and in a short time we will announce our decision,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamal-c70069 realising concerns over the proposed bilateral tournament.
Last week, the FICA chief, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Timothy-Brian-Alexander-May-c93981 had also openly opposed the holding of any cricket tournament in Pakistan and had asked the ICC to actively stop it rather than lending it any form of support. According to Tim, the security situation in Pakistan was not
suitable for holding an International cricketing event.
The endeavors by Pakistani cricket board officials seem to lack support at the International front after initially receiving encouragement from their Asian counterparts.
