Bangladesh team for Kiwi series named, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamim-Iqbal-c2640 out
The Bangladeshi side for their series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 has been named, and opening batsman Shahriar Nafees has been given another go in the squad. The 14-member Bangladeshi side also has left-arm spinner Suhrawadi Shuvo, who had earlier made his debut this year against England, before being dropped.
The reason for Nafees’ inclusion is probably the injury to Tamim Iqbal. Iqbal suffered a wrist injury on the tour of England and has undergone surgery, which will put him out for a few weeks and cause him to miss the series. Mohammad Ashraful has also been dropped from the squad after his prolonged run of poor form and inability to convert the starts into big scores.
Nafees is expected to open the innings with Imrul Kayes.
Some of the others who have been removed from the side are Syed Rasel, wicket-keeper Saghir Hossain and left-arm spinner Faisal Hossain.
While Nafees has been a part of the Bangladeshi Test squad, he last played an ODI in 2008. Nafees has a healthy ODI average of 33, but his strike-rate of less than 70 means that his place in the side was never certain. Nafees was earlier a part of the unauthorised cricket league, the Indian Cricket League, before making his comeback to the national team.
Apart from Shuvo, the other spinners in the Bangladeshi squad are Mahmudullah, Abdur Razzaq and Shakib al Hasan.
Mashrafe Mortaza will continue to captain the side, while former captain Shakib has been named the vice-captain of the Bangladeshi team.
The five-match series begins from October 5, and will see all the five matches played at Mirpur. There is a gap of two days between all the games, and the last match will be played on October 17.
