It took almost two hours for West Indies to seal their victory against co-hosts Bangladesh in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup 2011.
The 19th match of the cricket’s biggest extravaganza was being played between the two countries at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Bangladesh.
It was an extremely poor display of cricket from the Bengali Tigers who catastrophically froze up to the West Indian bowling attack, as West Indies wrapped their innings in the first hour, scrapping the lowest total in the tournament to date.
Bangladeshi skipper, Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 won the toss amidst roaring cheers from the home crowd and decided to bat first on a pitch that was expected to be slow today due to the several cracks noticed early on. Shakib took the decision of batting first due to
their last match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 Tigers’ young bowlers defended an average total.
It was a crucial match of Group B, as a victory for Bangladesh meant that their World Cup quarter final chances might have been boosted as England lost to Ireland. But the win for West Indies meant that they are one step closer to qualify for the next match,
currently placed second on the points table of Group B.
Bangladesh openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamim-Iqbal-c2640 and Imrul Kayes walked up to the crease under clear skies and their stride seemed confident. However, Kemar Roach opened the ball with his fiery deliveries and Tamim froze up against his first two deliveries. The crowd, which
was heavily dominated by the Bengal fans, were left dumbstruck when Roach delivered a full-length out-swinger in the third delivery that clipped the bat and went straight to skipper Darren Sammy, who was waiting at second slip.
It was a massive wicket for West Indies, who exploded in jubilant celebrations while the hard-hitting opener took the embarrassing, long walk back to the pavilion as he was dismissed for a duck, facing only three deliveries.
Next up was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Junaid-Siddique-c1749, who managed to cautiously drive the team to stability. He edged a four in the second delivery he faced. Siddique seemed confident as he tossed another boundary off Sulieman Benn.
Kayes and Siddique seemed to slowly build a partnership but Kayes threw his wicket in the 4th over, as Sammy bowled in a close delivery outside off stump. Kayes hit an outside edge as wicketkeeper Devon Thomas was quick to safely take the ball in his gloves.
Kayes scored five runs off 8 balls.
Bangladeshi wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mushfiqur-Rahim-c2045 was next but he quietly supported Siddique who added another four to Tigers’ total score.  But Sammy proved too much for Rahim as after facing only four deliveries, he lost his wicket at short midwicket to
Ramnaresh Sarwan.
It was up to the Bangladeshi skipper to revive his side’s failing batting order, as the team were tallying on 25 runs for the loss of three wickets in just 5.1 overs. He tried to strike a partnership with Siddique but Bangladesh cracked under high-pressure
as Roach shined again. Siddique fell prey to another lethal yorker on the middle stump. The batsman asked for a review but it worked against them as Siddique walked back to the pavilion, scoring 25 runs off 27 balls, including four boundaries.
At 8.2 overs, Bangladesh were down for four and the batting order soon crumbled as Shakib was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Benn-c47745 in the 11th over. Raqibul Hasan (4 runs off 17 balls) soon followed as Sammy took his third wicket of the day.
Benn then slashed through the lower order of the Tigers as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rubel-Hossain-c2378 were dismissed in quick succession. Mohammad Ashraful (11 runs off 21 balls) was dismissed by Roach, who also took his third wicket of the day.
Bangladesh’s innings was wrapped up in 18.5 overs with the team all out for a humiliating total of 58.
Benn took four wickets off 18 runs in his 5.5 over spell. Whereas, the consistent, man-of-the-match Roach took three wickets off 19 runs in his 6 overs and Sammy took three wickets off 21 runs in his spell of 7 overs.
It took just 44 minutes and for West Indies to seal the victory, as veteran opener Chris Gayle (37 runs off 36 balls) was supported by Darren Bravo (9 runs off 26 balls). Devon Smith (bowled out for 6 by Naeem Islam) was the only wicket that fell in the
5.1st over.
