Bangladesh tour of Ireland: Porterfield Shined
The Irish side was definitely the better team in the ODI (One Day International) contest between Ireland and Bangladesh at Civil Service Cricket Club Stormont, Belfast, Ireland. The Bangladesh team was in Ireland in the 2nd leg of their tour to Europe where they were to play two ODIs against the home side.
William Porterfield, the Irish captain, won the toss and elected to field first. The Irish side were to have the services of its three main players William Porterfield, wicketkeeper Niall O'Brien and fast bowler Boyd Rankin, who missed the WCL Div-1 tournament played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 as they had county commitments in England.

Next to go was Tamim. He tried to play a widish delivery and ended up losing his wicket when Stirling took a magnificent catch in the 2nd slip on the second ball of Rankin’s second over. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jahurul-Islam-c1624 (3 of 12) went in the same fashion by giving away an easy catch in the first slip where Wilson made no mistake.
Johnston continued his performance of Amsterdam by taking wickets early in the innings. Junaid Siddique and Shakib Al Hassan came on the crease when the visitors were struggling on 28/3 in 6th over of the match. Both Batsmen played sensible knocks to build a good partnership.
Junaid Siddique scored his maiden ODI century in Belfast where he scored 100 runs on 123 balls with the help of 9 fours. Shakib Al Hassan was able to score 50 runs in a 107 runs partnership with Siddique. Shakib (50 of 78) was first to go as he was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wilson-c98046 at long off on a ball off Stirling when he was trying to hit his first six but couldn’t.
Next were http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Junaid-Siddique-c1749 couldn’t resist his temptation to go for a big shot and was caught on backward point from ball off O’Brien.
The batsmen after that added a few runs in the total and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 side managed to score 234 for 9 wickets with run rate of 4.68 in 50 overs. Only 4 of the Bangladeshi batsmen scored in double figures. Rankin was the pick of bowlers who took 3 wickets for his side whereas Johnston and Stirling took 2 wickets each.
The Ireland started their innings in style with the beginning of their chase for 234 runs. Porterfield and Stirling opened the proceedings for the home side and played some exceptionally good shots.
Stirling in his 52 runs off 57 balls scored three boundaries in the first over of Syed Rasel. Porterfield scored 118 in 116 balls with a strike rate of 93; he scored 7 fours and 3 sixes in his century innings.
The first wicket of the Irish side was down in the 20th over when Stirling was bowled by Abdur Razzak on the team score of 118. Alex Cusack ( 45 of 77 not out) joined Porterfield and they both took their side on the brink of victory.
Porterfield was dismissed in the 38th over when he was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashrafe-Mortaza-c1917 at midwicket on ball of Shakib Al Hassan. Ireland easily achieved the target in 45th over on loss of 3 wickets. Syed Rasel, Abdur Razzak and Shakib Al Hassan took one wicket each.
William Porterfield was declared Man of the Match for his century performance, the other performer of the day was Paul Stirling who took 2 wickets and scored 52 runs for his side.
Bangladesh will face Ireland again at Belfast in the second match of 2 ODI match series played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751. Ireland leads the innings by 1-0.
