Sri Lanka 232 (49.5 ov) v Bangladesh 212/5 (37.1/40 ov, target 212) - Bangladesh won by 5 wickets (with 17 balls remaining) (D/L method)
In the sixth match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2012, Bangladesh grabbed their second successive win in the tournament after beating Sri Lanka by five wickets, at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
Bangladesh, who exhibited their batting domination in the game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on Friday, as they beat the defending champions, were up to speed in today’s contest and rallied a superb run chase, giving the home crowd plenty to cheer about.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mushfiqur-Rahim-c2045, chose to field first and since Bangladesh had won their previous game by chasing a mammoth tally of 290 runs with four balls to spare, it seemed like the right choice.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka lost their first wicket after posting 19 runs on the board, as skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nazmul-Hossain-c78993 on a tally of five.
The wicket of Jayawardene was a big boost for the hosts as they needed to make early inroads in order to subdue the Sri Lankans.
Bangladesh struck gold when they nabbed the wicket of ace batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779, as the batsman faltered on six runs before getting a chance to craft an impressive innings.
Soon after Sri Lanka lost their third wicket when hard hitting batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691, had his stumps destroyed by Nazmul Hossain after playing an innings of 19 runs.
However, after the demise of three top-order batsmen, Sri Lanka crawled right back in the game as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hettige-Don-Rumesh-Lahiru-Thirimanne-c63124 belted a strong partnership, taking the sting out of the Bangladesh bowling.
The duo took the tally to 120 runs before Thirimanne finally lost his wicket after belting an innings of 48 runs. Kapugedera, then found his way back to the pavilion after playing a commendable knock of 62 runs, while in the end it was the phenomenal innings of 48 runs by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WU-Tharanga-c2802 that helped the side amass a respectable total of 232 runs on the board.
However, rain ruined Sri Lanka’s effort as it prevented Bangladesh from starting their innings on time, putting Duckworth–Lewis method (D/L method) in motion which reduced the required tally to 212 runs in 40 overs.
Losing their first wicket with only eight runs on the board, Bangladesh launched a steady run chase and kept the required run rate in check which actually helped them win the game in the end with 17 deliveries remaining.
From Bangladesh, star opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Dhaka.
Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 was named as the Player of the Match for superb work with the bat and taking two wickets while bowling his ten overs.
