The West Indian tourists recently marked a stalemate at the 2-match Twenty20 (T20) series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, at the Kennington Oval, in London, and will now be looking to make use of their experience at the opening fixture of their tour to Bangladesh, where
the two sides will lock horns at the only T20 bout, which kick off today, October 11, 2011, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, in Mirpur.
Skipper Darren Sammy, who has already ranked the assignment against the Asian Tigers as a tough challenge, will be leading a youth-oriented squad, which according the team’s Coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358, has all the requisites to stand tough against the hosts.
However, in order for the tourists to stand strong, the Skipper will also have to bank on the experienced lot on his team, which will look to offer an imposing bout against the Tigers.
For that matter, Bangladesh will have to keep an eye out for the Caribbean side’s potent arsenal, built-on Skipper Sammy, followed by young spin maestro, Devendra Bishoo, fast-bowlers, Ravi Rampaul and all-rounder Kieron Pollard.
Darren Sammy
The St Lucian all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382, has already been ranked as one of the competitive Skippers the Caribbean side ever had.
During his recent assignment with the West Indian squad, the Skipper led his team to an imposing comeback against the English hosts, after suffering a disappointing loss in the opening bout.
However, adding his all-round skills to the team, Sammy led his side to an impressive 25 runs victory, earning a stalemate to the mini competition.
Leading an able roster of players, Sammy will now be aiming to make the bout a tough challenge for the hosts, through his imposing batting and bowling skills.
Premiering his T20 career in June 2007, Sammy has played 23 matches under the format, scoring 158 runs, averaging at 12.15, while the medium pacer has bagged 29 wickets, including his best figures of 5 for 26.
Devendra Bishoo
Having recently earned the Emerging Player of the Year title at the 2011 International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Awards, West Indian leg-break bowler, Devendra Bishoo, comes in as a real prized possession for the Caribbean squad.
2011 came as a year of celebration for the player, where Bishoo did not only made his international debut for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 or earn the Emerging Player’s honour, but quickly grew into sealing a major spot on the national roster.
Bangladesh batters will have to watch out for Bishoo, who will be aiming to fall hard on the opponent with his leg-break skills.
Bishoo made his T20 debut, during the team’s only bout at the home-series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in April 2011, where the spinner stood out to be the pick of the bowlers with his haul of 4 wickets.
Till now, the 25-year-old has played 4 T20 games, with a tally of 6 wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Rampaul-c2233
Bangladesh’s top order might stand vulnerable with Ravi Rampaul on the new ball.
During the just-concluded Champions League (CL) T20 competition, the pacer stood out as the highest wicket taker of the competition, bagging 12 wickets from 6 outing for his domestic side, Trinidad & Tobago.
Hence, for the upcoming bout, Rampaul will come as challenge for the opponent, as he would aim to use his CLT20 experience as well as his regular outing with the national side.
Rampaul premiered his first ever T20 international match against England in 2007 and till now the 26-year-old Trinidad cricketer has played 10 games, securing 12 wickets, averaging at 28.58.
Kieron Pollard
All-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians.
However, similar to Rampaul, Pollard will also have an advantage at his end, since the player has recently been quite active under the shortest format.
Since his debut in 2008, Pollard has played 20 T20 matches for the West Indies, batting a total of 190 runs, while with his medium pace skills, has bagged 11 wickets.
As West Indies kicks off its Asian tour, the tourists will be looking forward to securing some imposing wins; however, the side will have to remain wary of Bangladeshi hosts, who will be looking to make a potent use of their home-turf advantage.
