http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 v West Indies – West Indies tour of Bangladesh (1st Test) – Match Update [Day 4] – Windies faltering at 244 for 6 by stumps
Centurion Kieron Powell made valiant attempts to keep the West Indies on top during their second innings on the 4th day of the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh – however, while the Tigers’ bowlers struck late, they triggered an alarming collapse
which saw the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at a vulnerable 244 for 6 by stumps on November 16, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
The Windies’ second innings saw them failing to display the confidence they had possessed during their first time at bat on day 1, after having won the toss and chosen to bat. Stellar performances from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390 (203*) and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/D-Ramdin-c1299 (126*) saw the visitors up to a massive first innings total of 527 after which they declared.
However, the host team was determined to put up a strong fight – substantial contributions from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahmudullah-c1877
(62) taking the team one step further, and enabling them to reach 556. However, owing to a late burst from Windies’ off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869 (32.3-5-148-3), Bangladesh were unable to progress any further, and found themselves all out just before lunch.
Their second innings saw the West Indies faced with the need to set their hosts a daunting total to chase, and despite the early dismissal of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 (19) off Rubel Hossain (14-4-35-2) in the 7th over, Kieran Powell managed to get the team
started on the right note, with a 110-run contribution.
He was aided in his attempts by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rubel-Hossain-c2378 picking Bravo up as his second victim of the day, and from there onwards
it was a downhill slide for the Windies.
Sohag Gazi (18.5-2-63-2), who had provided the Windies a brief scare early in their first innings, struck again by taking http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 (11-2-56-2) followed up with the all-important wicket of Powell in the 60th
over, and trapped wicketkeeper batsman Denesh Ramdin (5) lbw two overs later.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 yet unbeaten on 15, the tourists finished at 244 for 6 by stumps – leading by 215 runs, with just 4 wickets remaining.
