Bangladesh v West Indies – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 steadies Tigers after Windies’ assault, Bangladesh at 365/8 by stumps
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 found unexpected salvation in a massive century from number 10 batsman Abul Hasan,
who pulled the team out of their tight spot, and got the Tigers up to 365 for 8 by stumps on day one, at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna today on November 21.
Eager to equalise the 2-match series after the West Indies won the first match by 77 runs, Bangladesh chose to bat after winning the toss – however, Fidel Edwards (16-2-81-5) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 (20-4-61-2) did not allow the host team’s top and middle order
to do justice to the decision.
Edwards, coming in for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahriar-Nafees-c2486 (26) attempted to put the innings on an upward track with a 59-run
partnership for the second wicket. However, both were soon sent back to the pavilion by Windies skipper Darren Sammy.
Their successors http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shakib-Al-Hasan-c89559 (17) were also unable to do much for the team, and made quick exits at the hands of Edwards after small contributions. The home team received a glimmer of hope with the 87-run partnership between wicketkeeper
skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Veerasammy-Permaul-c94981.
Edwards continued his rampage, unrelenting, and snapped up both Rahim and Sohag Gazi (0) in the 56th over, leaving the Tigers at a precarious 193 for 8. However, debutant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imtiaz-Sheikh-c64290 Abu Naser Stadium with a composed
century which revived the innings in a big way, and made him the second Test debutant batting at number 10 to score a hundred in the history of the game - a feat which was last accomplished over a century ago.
Abul Hasan (100*) was aided in his efforts by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahmudullah-c1877 (72*), who joined the 20-year-old for an as-yet unbeaten 172-run partnership for the 9th wicket. Their combined efforts put Bangladesh back in the game and got them from 193/8 to 365/8
by stumps on day 1.
