Bangladeshi coach claims team still under World Cup depression
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747’s coach, Jamie Siddons, thinks that his team has not yet recovered from the drubbing it received in three of its World Cup games and the memory is haunting them, as they bid to tackle former World Champions, Australia, in
a limited overs series.
The coach of the team stated that the negative approach of the batsmen in the opening game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 only illustrated their lack of mental strength.
The lack of initiative was due to the battering they received in the tournament especially at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, who tormented them, and, made them crash for a score of under 100.
He added that he spoke to the captain of the team, Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990, after the game against Australia and inquired why he did not go after the score and played out the allotted overs tamely to hand over a comfortable win to the opposition?
"Shakib didn't really have a lot of answers for me when he came off as to why they went so slow, other than the wicket was very difficult. I didn't like the running between wickets, didn't like them walking between wickets", Siddons
said of the innings.
"I was disappointed we didn't go a bit harder after we got to about 160, I thought we took the Powerplay probably six or eight overs too late”.
Siddons conceded that the poor run in the World Cup has been at the back of the minds of the players, especially the scores of 58 and 78 [against West Indies and South Africa].
He added that the loss of early wickets did not help the team much and they went into their shells to avoid another embarrassing result like the ones in the premier tournament.
Meanwhile, Siddons would get to know about his future with the minnows of Test cricket soon, as his contract is set to end after the ongoing series but there is a likelihood that he would be told about the decision earlier by the Bangladesh
Cricket Board.
After the opening match, Siddons further stated that he had set certain guidelines for the team when they started their chase. However, what disappointed him the most was that the team was well off the target he had set for them in
their chase.
"My plan in the brief before we went out was to be 200 at the 40-over mark and see if we can get the last 70 [in 10 overs]. We lost three wickets really quickly so 200 was way out of our reach, and then I pretty much left it up to
the captain and vice-captain”.
The second One Day International (ODI) is set to be played at the same venue tomorrow. The two teams have a different target for the game.
The Bangladeshis know well that a win against the former World Champions is only a distinct possibility and they ought to improve their batting to give themselves a sniff against them.
The Aussies are taking this series as a step towards rebuilding themselves for the years to come, under the leadership of Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120.
His predecessor, Ricky Ponting, has a few games left in him and would like to bow out of international cricket on a high and on his own terms. For that to happen he has to continue to impress at the number three spot, which he had made his own in his heyday.
