Bangladesh’s Domestic Cricket – Roundup of National Cricket League One Days 2010/2011 (Last day of the Second Phase)
Bangladesh's domestic cricket is in full swing as the National Cricket League of the country is currently underway. The One Day matches of the 2010/2011 season gave players in the domestic circuit a chance to prove themselves to the selection committee whereas the national squad players had ample opportunity to polish their form before the 2011 World Cup preparations.
Dhaka Division booked a place for themselves in the final game, after beating Barisal Division, scheduled to be held on 14th November. The end of the Second phase saw a rather bitter-sweet moment for Khulna Division who were unable to taste victory against Rajshahi Division. Dhaka, Rajshahi, and Barisal had tied on ten points each in the league, but according to the by-laws: “the team which had the most wins of all the matches played between those equal teams” will be placed higher on the league table.
Therefore, Barisal qualified to the final game due to their two earlier wins in matches against Dhaka and Rajshahi in the two phases.
Khulna Division vs. Rajshahi Division
The match was being played at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium in the beautiful capital of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, Dhaka. Rajshahi Division won the toss and chose to field first- which was a wise decision as they won by six wickets with 132 balls remaining. Rajshahi's bowling attack restricted Khulna's batsmen to a score of 118 in 31.2 overs when all the players were bowled out.
Soharawardi Shuvo and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saqlain-Sajib-c88745. Khulna's wickets fell at regular intervals and their only saving grace was opener Mithun Ali. It seemed like he was batting on a different pitch as he smashed six boundaries and two sixes scoring 54 off 64 balls. However, none of the other players could support him and the batsmen eventually fell victim to one of the spinners.
The win came easy to Rajshahi as they scored 124 in 28 overs with the loss of four wickets. Opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Junaid-Siddique-c1749, scored 47 smashing five boundaries and two sixes whereas “player of the match”, Shuvo, scored 34 off 46 balls, which included five boundaries. Khulna's Abdur Razzak and Imrul Kayes took two wickets each.
However, the win was not enough to guarantee a place in the final for Rajshahi. The team was notified of their fate later in the evening after the league officials announced the law. Rajshahi's skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khaled-Mashud-c71224 later admitted that they were under the impression that they had made it to the finals after the win.
Dhaka Division vs. Barisal Division
The match was played at Shere Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur. Dhaka Division lost the toss but were invited to bat first. Dhaka set up a modest total for Barisal after scoring 242 runs before being bowled out in 49 overs. Shamsur Rahman and Shuvagoto Hom both struck 54 but in their own individual fashions. The “player of the match”, Shuvagoto, who was also recalled for the national squad against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamrul-Islam-Rabbi-c70150, Sohag Gazi and Asif Ahmed, claimed three wickets each.
Barisal tried to fight back after a strong start from opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahmudullah-c1877 did the most damage by taking three wickets each whereas Mosharraf Hossain, Noor Hossain and Sunny took one wicket each. Barisal was bowled out for 163 runs in 40.1 overs.
Barisal captain, Shahin Hossain, later told the media that the team was oblivious of the fact that they had made it to the final and the news was a “huge surprise” for them.
Both finalists seem well prepared to battle it out at Dhaka on the 14th.
