Bangladesh’s Domestic Cricket – Roundup of National Cricket League One
Rajshahi Division slipped to the third position as they lost their fifth and last game of Phase One of the National Cricket One Day League Season 2010/2011. They lost to Barisal Division, who had a thrilling win over Rajshahi on November 5th.
The victory recorded Barisal’s fourth win in the five matches Phase One and gave them a straight entry into the Second Phase.
Along with Barisal Division, Dhaka and Rajshahi division would also be joining in the Second Phase as it begins from November 8th, 2010. Even though Khulna Division was blown away by Dhaka’s tremendous pace attack, they still managed to squeeze
into the next phase of the tournament.
Rajshahi Division vs. Barisal Division
The Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur witnessed a nail-biting match between Rajshahi Division and Barisal Division. Barisal Division stamped Rajshahi with a thrilling three wicket win with no balls remaining.
Earlier, Rajshahi won the toss and opted to bat first. They made a considerably solid score of 220 runs for nine wickets in 50 overs. It was made possible due to the 84-run partnership in the sixth wicket between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anisur-Rahman-c44788 and Zubair Ahmed.
Before that, Rajshahi were down with five players for 86 runs in the 28th over. Barsial seemed to be in control but the partnership of Anisur and Zubair was hard to crack. Anisur thrashed a stunning 61 off 56 balls with five boundaries and one
six while Zubair anchored his team with nine boundaries contributing 46 runs.
However, their efforts were crushed by Barisal when a solid half-century came from Hannan Sarkar. Hannan was particularly in great form as he scored 58 off 89 balls. The “player of the match” had done enough for his side as he was caught in the 45.4th
over when Barisal was on 183. After his dismissal, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arafat-Salahuddin-c45318 continued to hold it all together with an unbeaten 31 off 33 balls.
Other prominent players for Barisal were opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fazle-Mahmud-c56945, who steered his team after scoring 50 off 54 balls, and wicketkeeper Shahin Hossain, who was caught just off 3 runs, to complete his century.
Dhaka Division vs. Khulna Division
Dhaka’s pace attack proved a bit too much for the Tigers at Khulna Division. The match was being played at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra. As Khulna Division won the toss, they decided to bat first and were bowled out for 170 runs in 47.5 overs.
Two half centuries from Tushar http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Elias-Sunny-c55863 and
Mohammad Sharif, who took two wickets each.
The men of Dhaka replied back strongly when opener Uttam Sarkar scored 44 runs off 49 balls. He was followed by a fantastic innings by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anamul-Haque-c44160 Bijoy, who hit an unbeaten 64 off 86 balls.
Shamsur Rahman also contributed to his team’s win with 29 runs. Dhaka Division won by six wickets. The only saving grace for Khulna was Bishawnath Halder’s three wickets off 19 runs.
Chittagong Division vs. Sylhet Division
Chittagong notched up their second win but it wasn’t enough to give them a place in the second phase as Khulna qualified past them due to the head-to-head system for qualification.
Chittagong Division won the toss and chose to bat at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 Kamruzzaman Stadium at Rajshahi. They did not have any difficulty as a lackluster bowling attack from the Sylhet boys made Chittagong ton up a total of 251 runs for seven wickets.
Opener Nazimuddin was caught out for a duck but Nafees Iqbal smashed eight boundaries to score 69 runs. Faisal Hossain also made a half century off 49 balls with 58 runs and Aftab Ahmed also contributed with his half century to help his team set a large
score to chase.
Sylhet couldn’t come up to such a challenge and they recorded their fifth defeat in a row after “player of the match” Faisal Hossain took five wickets for 28 runs. The only decent score for Syhet came from Sayem Alam, as he hit five boundaries to make 45
runs. However, Sylhet were bowled out in 36.1 overs and Chittagong won by 121 runs.
The four qualified teams would play each other once in the Second Phase from November 8th and the top two teams would play the final of the National League on November 14th 2010.
