Bangladesh’s coach reckons the team will miss Mortaza’s experience in the 2011 World Cup
Bangladesh’s coach Jamie Siddons expressed his frustration over the latest injury of Mashrafe Mortaza that is threatening his inclusion in the final squad for the 2011 World Cup.
Mortaza injured his right knee once again as he was batting for his domestic club Abahani in the Dhaka Premier Division League two days ago.
The World Cup 2011 that is scheduled to begin from February 19th is being co-hosted by Bangladesh alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and Siddons expressed his disappointment over Mortaza’s injury.
“A fit and firing Mash (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashrafe-Mortaza-c1917) was obviously our first preference for the World Cup and this is a huge disappointment for Mash and the team as well,” Siddons conceded in a local newspaper.
The Australian coach said that the loss of Mortaza in the squad will be seen in his “leadership and experience” and that the level of his experience cannot be covered by any other player in the squad.
However, Siddons was confident about the strong bowling attack of the Tigers team yet he knew that the team has suffered a huge blow upon hearing the injury setback for Mortaza.
Siddons also reckoned that the absence of Mortaza would mean that the opening attack will be different with the inclusion of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rubel-Hossain-c2378 and Nazmul Hossain.
Yet, a final MRI report confirmed that Mortaza’s right knee has indeed suffered a complete tear of the reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament graft.
Mortaza has not been new to injuries. He had a surgery on his right knee last year in August as he injured his knee during the first Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and the injury ruled him out of the series.
He again had a rough second half of the year when he suffered an ankle injury that forced him to sit out of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. The year’s highlight has been the complete whitewash of 4-0 of the Kiwis by the Tigers in the One Day series that
saw Bangladesh rising above as a force in the international cricket scene.
Mortaza came back in the One Day series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 but said that he needs time to get back into his rhythm after playing in the first two One Day matches.
The right arm fast medium bowler is avoiding any surgical treatments on the injury and is undergoing physical therapies.
