Bangladesh’s domestic cricket league One Day tournament round up (second phase)
The second phase of the National Cricket League One Day tournament kicked off on 8th November.
Khulna Division defeated Dhaka Division and they won by four wickets whereas Barisal Division won by eight runs after defeating Rajshahi Division.
On 10th November, Khulna Division continued their winning streak in the second phase when they defeated Barisal Division and Rajshahi bounced back after defeating Dhaka Division.
However, Barisal is at the top of the tournament table as they have won a maximum number of games in the league (the first phase points are added in the second phase). Khulna and Rajshahi tie with Dhaka division on eight points.
8th November:
Barisal Division vs. Rajshahi Division
The first match was being played at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, which saw the Barisal Division boys smash a 272 for the loss of three wickets in 50 overs. A splendid 172 run partnership between openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasiruddin-Faruque-c78773
drove the team to an eight run victory over Rajshahi Division. Rabbi’s 148 not out off 147 balls made him earn the “player of the match” reward. He hit sixteen fours and two sixes while Faruque added 68 off 106 balls.
In reply, Barisal’s bowling made things difficult for Rajshahi’s openers as they stuttered to 52 for three in 8.5 overs. But http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mushfiqur-Rahim-c2045 revived hope in his side by scoring 114 off 120 balls. He smashed nine boundaries and three sixes.
But his efforts went to waste as no one was able to support him with the loss of wickets at regular intervals. Rajshahi’s Shuvo threatened around the climax as he hit 32 off 25 balls but Monir Hossain (who also took three wickets) dismissed him to claim
a narrow victory for Barisal.
Khulna Division vs. Dhaka Division
After Dhaka division won the toss at Shere-e-Bangla National Stadium Mirpur, they decided to bat first and put up a 272 score for six wickets in 50 overs. A blazing not out 111 from Mohammad Ashraful and skipper Mohammad Sharif’s 45 drove the team to a massive
score.
But the Khulna Division’s top order led by Imrul Kayes replied brilliantly after smashing 108 off 122 balls. A 140-run second wicket between Kayes and Mohammad Mithun (59) got their team closer to the target. However, both batsmen got dismissed by Nur Hossain.
The climax was provided by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ziaur-Rahman-c98624, who clobbered three sixes and a four to seal the victory.
Khulna’s Imrul Kayes and Dhaka’s Ashraful shared the “player of the match” reward
10th November:
Khulna Division vs. Barisal Division
The match was being played at Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium, Dhaka. Khulna Division won the toss and decided to field first. Barisal’s top order started off with a relatively modest batting line up when they set up a total of 213 for the loss of eight wickets.
Nasiruddin Faruque (40) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 took three wickets for 34 runs.
Khulna’s batting, whose only saving grace was Nazmus Sadat, stuttered to the finishing line as Barisal’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Monir-Hossain-c77657 and Asif Ahmed took three wickets each at regular intervals. Sadat played the main role in holding it altogether for his team as wickets
fell whenever a partnership gathered pace. However, Khulna won by three wickets with 32 balls remaining.
Rajshahi Division vs. Dhaka Division
Rajshahi made a convincing 79-run against Dhaka Division at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. Rajshahi scored a massive 276 runs for eight wickets. Junaid Siddique’s 60 and “Player of the match” Sabbir Rahman’s 74 runs helped their side bounce back
after a loss in the second phase. Late-order batting from Forhed Reza made sure that his team went past the 250-run mark for a third time in a row.
However, Dhaka’s top order could not support each other as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rony-Talukder-c86822 were both run out. Shuvagoto Hom’s 56 off 62 balls kept Dhaka in the chase but it was too late as they were already hanging in the 37th over. Dhaka Division
was bowled out in 40.1 overs.
The last round of the second stage would take place on November 12th and the final would be held on November 14th.
