Question:

Bangs cut too short, but is it my fault?

i went to my stylist to get straight across bangs because i was tired of my side parted bangs that everyone has. i wanted something new, so i went to my stylist of two haircuts [[she is really good at layering!]]

i showed her a picture of rainie yang and yoon eun hye [[asian actresses that have my ideal bangs]] i asked her to make it choppy like rainie's [[where the ends are spiky in a cute way]] and to frame my face with bangs, which means after the straight across bangs start going downwards to the shape of my face for layers.

first of all, she wet my hair. so i knew it was going to be longer because when it dries, it will be shorter. i asked her to go past the eyebrows. she nods yes and then cuts exactly to my eyebrows in the middle. 'like that?' she asks. i thought she knew better so i said yes because even if i asked for them longer, the middle part would still be short, in a W shape. i said, "okay." then she starts snipping randomly. i'm not a hair stylist, so i can't comment.

the way she framed my face was nicely done, but the straight across bangs differ in chunks of about half an inch. so they're NOTICEABLE!! i said like rainie's, i even brought a picture. i guess she thought obviously tacky choppy.

i think she noticed something wrong because she said the in thing was to make them fuller and add more hair to the bangs. i said yes, because i was not satisfied with the results. after i got my bangs cut and she blowdried them, she made a comment that when it air dries, it will be longer. while she was cutting my mom's hair afterwards, she kept looking at me. the bangs are TACKY as fu...ck. they're too short. they're uneven like an elementary kid took revenge on my hair.

it sounds bias, but who's fault was it? mine? or the hairdressers? my mom is taking the hairdressers side, but my previous hair stylist [[who is ALWAYS booked and a haircut means a two week wait.]] would tell me what looks good or not. and what is in and best for my face shape.

i don't feel that i was wrong. but then again, my hairdresser was a filipino woman who still had an accent.

i'm just so erkked. i intentionally cut my hair two weeks before school [[because i only recently made the decision]] so that it would grow out and i would know how to style it when school comes around. but i also have some training for orientation of newcomers at my school, so i will still be seen.

please don't take a bias in your answer. =]

  1. I take great pride in a haircut as well, lack of skill and professionalism on the stylist fault seem evident. Though a wait for your original stylist will be tedious, it's well worth getting your hair cut correctly.

In the meantime, don't part your hair straight down, part it slightly to the side and use a light hair wax to make uneven strands less noticeable. (Cutting it now will just make your bangs unbearably short) Another technique is pinning them back, and if long enough into the "poof" with hairspray and teased with a comb.

  2. no i don't think it was your fault. if you had a picture usually the hairdresser can pretty much replicate whats in the picture. just remember that hair grows back no matter what (except for men LOL) you will find that you will slowly get used to how it looks and will start to accept it.

i'm sorry you had to go through that. i've been through something similar and its not a good feeling.

    Goodluck with it all.

  3. I don't think it's necessarily either of your "fault". From how you said she reacted, it sounds like she knew she messed up, but in a job it's hard to say sorry I completely ruined your hair come back in a few weeks and we'll fix it. She was probably either having a bad day or hasn't had a lot of practice with bangs. They are pretty new as far as current trends go, so whether she is experienced or not in haircutting, she probably hasn't done a ton of bangs. On the bright side, within 2 weeks they should grow out. Also, I cut my bangs recently and also hacked them off way too short. There is still some cute things I can do with my hair, so I'm sure for the next couple of weeks there are some cute things you can do. I think if you push them to the side, the difference wont be AS noticeable in the layers. Also, you could try going to another stylist, and asking if there's any way they could make it look a little more intentional without taking off much length. Good luck and hopefully it will grow fast (and mine too haha) =)

  4. I think that the hairdresser is wrong. You gave her a picture. She should have had enough training to be able to get you a haircut as close to the picture as possible. She shouldn't just start cutting randomly and then ask you if you'd like it that way. I mean, once you cut, you can't put hair back! Imagine if you had told her that you didn't like it when she cut part of your bang, haha, that makes no sense what she did.
