I have just spoke to the bank regarding a £28.00 Maintanance charge,

They said this was because i went £14.00 over my overdraft limit limit on the 30/06/08 . The reason i went over my limit was because of junes over draft interest charge and my bank account subscription (advantage gold)

Can the bank charge you for a charge they have applied.they seem to think its acceptable and wont do anything about it any one had simmilar problems

The bank as Natwest

  1. If the charge that took you overdrawn was a regular account fee that you get charged every month then yes.

If you have an account that incurrs a monthly charge you are responsible for making sure the money is in the account before the charge is due.

You accepted the account and its terms and conditions which stated there would be a monthly charge that you were willing to pay.

If the money was not there to pay the charge then the Bank have had to lend you the money to pay the fee without you making a prior arragement to do that.

They will therefore charge you for unauthorised use of their money.

  2. angie is correct....they can charge you if you go overdrawn even if it was to pay THEIR BANK fee....I have had an experience with this years ago....so subsequently I have checking accounts that are FREE!!!

  3. Ya what  they're doing is charging on the previous overdraft you incurred....better get it cleared up it will add up quickly. You admit that the overdraft was caused by your legitimate subscription...you snooze you lose.
