  1. First of all, bank holiday just means public holiday. The UK has eight public holidays - four are always on Mondays, one is always on a Friday, and the other three vary from year to year. Of the four permanent Monday holidays only two have the term "Bank Holiday" in their title.

    The eight days are:

New Year's Day (January 1st, or the following Monday if falling on a weekend)

Good Friday (the Friday before Easter Sunday)

Easter Monday (the Monday after Easter Sunday)

May Day (the first Monday in May)

Spring Bank Holiday (the last Monday in May)

August Bank Holiday (the last Monday in August)

Christmas Day (December 25th, or the following Monday if falling on a weekend)

Boxing Day (December 26th, or the following Monday if falling on a Saturday, or the following Tuesday if falling on a Sunday).
