I am in the US and was wondering can a person have more than one bank account?

  1. Yes you can have more than one, in fact you can have as many as you want.

    I work in a bank and I assist customers every day.  Some people have as many as 5 or 6 accounts.  Just remember, it's easy to get things mixed up so keep accurate records.  Regarding the FDIC coverage mentioned above, you can get more than $100,000.00 coverage and you can go to your local bank and ask them how.  It's all about how you style the accounts.  A financial services representative can help assist you in all your banking needs.


  2. You can have as many as you want really. The only thing you cannot have more than one of is a home insurance policy. That is illegal. Anything else is perfectly great.

  3. Yes, of course you can have more than one.  There are also different types that vary by bank.  There are savings accounts, checking accounts, vacation accounts, christmas savings accounts, etc. etc based on your bank.

    However, keep in mind that with recent news events about the banks in California, the FDIC will only insure your money up to $100,000.  Therefore, it may actually help you to have more than one bank account.
