i worked for Barclays Bank for a very long time and i was made redundant 2 years ago i was a customer service team leader when i left.

im now going back into banking and have a job interview with Halifax next week. one question i know they will ask me is why Halifax and not Barclays i need some answers as Barclays is one of the big 4 banks. the new role is for cashiering.

and any other tips on why they should hire me and not someone else apart from skills and experience

  1. or be honest, and say that you wouldnt want to work for barclays because despite your long service and progression, they were not a loyal bank, and didnt support you. this is why you sought out a smaller bank that would appreciate your skills. good luck.

    * but dont make it sound pissy or negative. really focus on it being your choice of choosing halifax, not last resort. be very positive.

perhaps say that you are very good at your job, but fancied a challenging new environment. you could have went for another barclays, but that would be too easy and you fancied a new goal and surroundings, because you are confident in your ability to transfer your skills.

  2. For your first question, try mentioning the achievements and potential Halifax has. Praise the company! Show them that you are an interesting person and they need people with ambition and drive. Good luck with the interview, cheers.
