Question Details:

How can you or can you start a union at a bank?

Bank of America has grown way too large, and the people who work there are treated so poorly. Hispanics, Blacks and some Whites (all SVP positions and up are held by white people) it doesn’t matter what race you are, you can stand outside of there corporate centers and ask the employees what they think and they’ll tell you a Union is needed desperately.

They had a hiring fair, and hired around 200 people from the hiring fair. Then before the 90 days was up, they let those 200 people go. Bank of America is only diverse so it can treat people like migrant workers and pay them almost the same. It’s a shame that Afro-American and the Hispanic communities have award Bank of America with awards for there diversity. That’s just wrong, and something needs to be done.

Again: How can you, or can you start a union at a bank like Bank of America?

Where do you start?

  1. Do you really want to see Bank of America pass the same way the American auto industry has?

  2. To start a new local you have to contact one of the unions that represents workers in your occupation. Meetings off site are usually held and the union will help you organize.

Everything leads up to a vote and you must have a majority of the employees voting for the union.

  3. Why don't you leave and find another job? It is extremely hard to find good people in the marketplace today so if you are a good employee with valuable skills you should be able to find a job that treats you better. I never understand why people would stay at job that treated them poorly? Last I checked there is bank on every corner why not go work for the competition?

As someone who hires people on a regular basis it is extremely hard to find smart, reliable and hardworking individuals. It seems like most people just want to collect a paycheck not earn it. To try and keep the good I promise raises every 3 months for the first year. Of course if they don't measure up I also fire them fast.

  4. Formerly a longtime employee of Citigroup, I understand. I think it's definitely time for white collar employees to unionize. These huge international companies are out of control. I quit years ago when they were bragging about record profits and "laid off" a pregnant woman and another with six children.

  5. I belong to a union. I would look in the phone book to see what unions might be in your area. They would have union halls where their members would meet. They could probably advise you on the best choice. I am in the Machinist union.

  6. Call up the Teamsters directly after getting names and signatures of all those wanting to have a union.

This must be done outside of working hours...for now.
