  1. Unless the check was presented at your bank to be cashed, then you will be charged for the overdraft.

Do you check your account activity?  You will know whether or not they charged you.

Any time you write a check for more than you have in your account, be prepared to be charged for doing it.  Also, depending on who the check is to and for how much, be prepared for them to file a police report against you.

  2. Yes, they will.

  3. most banks do

  4. In other words, you bounced a check?  Yes, there are consequences.

  5. Yes. The check tried to clear. There were not enough funds so it did not clear so you get a fee. You are paying a penalty because you were negligent. Sorry, but there is no nice way to put it.

Plus the person that deposited the bad item will get charged a fee. Plus they could have bounced checks because of YOU. They in turn could take the item to the police and prosecute you for writing bad checks.(worse case scenario.)Best case- you pay their fees.

If you are having problems with knowing how to balance your checkbook to your statement- ASK YOUR BANK they should help you. They really don't want you to overdraw  but by heck they will take your money if you do.

I know some people that probably pay for one of the bank staffs salary just cause their to lazy to balance their book.

Check out www.getchecking.org they have classes so you can learn not to be that person. I took the class, I sat next to a 45 yr old lawyer who didn't know how to balance his own checkbook.

  6. yes. B/c if you don't have enough money to cover a check it constitutes being overdrawn.
