I use my debit card all of the time for all of my purchases basically. You know when you use them online it's considered a credit charge. Okay, Well I placed an order with a company IN JULY whom I have ordered something from before. I order online quite frequently and I never had any problems. Well, they charged my account but I never received my order. Actually if I look at my account with them it's on hold. I had called the company and they said they were having shipment problems. I said okay. So now it's been past a month since I placed the order and I called again left a message, emailed them and left messages no response. I called to cancel my order and now their voice mail is full on both numbers and no response from emails. I called the bank to get this reversed and explained the situation the woman said since I used my debit card I can't reverse the charge. This is B.S. to me. I need advice. Thanks.

  1. A debit card is always a debit card even if it’s run through the credit system.  There is no consumer protection provided by a debit card like there is with a traditional credit card.  Your bank is right that you have no grounds to dispute this.

  2. And that is why its not always good to use debit cards for everything.  If you had used a credit card you could dispute the transaction.

  3. that really sucks...i use my debit card online alot too...

i guess just make sure you know who your dealing with

  4. You authorized the charge so the bank cannot reverse it.

The problem comes down to the company you ordered your products from.  Keep a log of when you call, send them e-mails and any other things you do involving this situation.  If you do get to speak to someone tell them that you want a refund immediately.

You can also try to contact the Better Business Bureau and report them.

  5. Sorry,  but she's right.  Credit cards have certain legal protections that debit cards don't, and the bank has no requirement to reverse a debit card payment.

  6. The bank can't reverse the charge because there is no charge to reverse. You withdrew money from your account and transferred it to the merchant. That's what debits card do.
