Bankable to retire after the Dubai World Cup run – Horse Racing Update
The racing event that has caught up the attention of all the fans of the sport and those involved in the business of horse-racing is the ongoing Dubai World Cup that started on Saturday evening. It is indeed a great experience to see some of the best horse-races
under the best jockeys compete against each other at the Meydan race-course.
The colts that were expected to claim the events have somehow not lived up to the expectations of their fans and followers. One such colt is Bankable who might now as well retire after he gave a disappointing performance at the Meydan race-course on Saturday.
Nonetheless, he will be remembered as a great asset to the sport as he did give several impressive performances during his racing career. The seven-year old race-horse was the fifth place finisher in the 2008 edition of the Hunt Cup that took place at the
Royal Ascot. After that meeting he continued to give some top-class performances.
After that he went on to contend the Singapore Airlines International Cup in the 2009 racing season, where he was successful in finishing second to the champion race-horse Al Shemali. He then also finished to the same race-horse in the last year’s edition
of the Dubai Duty Free meeting. Both these events were Group 1.
As the race began on Saturday, the race-horse was performing pretty well, as he was just 6 furlongs behind the winner of the Group 3 Mahab Al Shemal at the Meydan race-course. That is when he was in the best of his form and showcased his great talent and
potential. However, it seemed like fate had decided something else for the race-horse because towards the end of the race he could only manage to finish in the 13th place out of the field of 16 contenders behind Presvis.
It looked like Bankable was having a hard time handling the turf surface after running on Tapeta. After the race his trainer, Herman Brown said that if his connections are able to find a suitable place for him at stud, he will not be seen on the track again.
