  1. What are  you filing a chapter 7 on? Creditors cannot take social security or disability income. A chapter 7 filing will cost you 800.00 to 1500.00 to file. Have you done a free consultation with a bankruptcy attorney yet? That's your first step and go from there...but...creditors cannot collect on disability or social security benefits, you're protected by the government. Good Luck!

  2. The first Answerer is correct.  It may not be worth it for you to file Chapter 7.  Your creditors cannot garnish social security or any other government benefit.  However, if you own a home with equity on it, your creditors can record liens against your property if you don't pay them, and you will have them calling you and sending you letters constantly.

Definitely consult with a bankruptcy attorney.
