I've been with the same bank for 10 years. In the last 4 years they have changed names twice. Eveytime this do this I get issued a new check card which all my automatic payments are set up through. Gas, ele, car payment, insurance, home phone, cell phone, internet, cable, etc.. Every time they change I have to call all these places and give them the new card number. I'm getting so annoyed with it I'm thiking about finding a new bank. Does anyone else keep running across this same problem and are getting annoyed by it? Is there a bank out there that you don't see changing names any time soon?

  1. Have you considered setting up your payments through online banking?  The you wouldn't have to change everything if you got a new check card.  That could come in very handy, particularly if you lost your check card or it was compromised in some way.

Perhaps the mergers with banks will slow down because of the current financial atmosphere but it's hard to tell.  Probably if you used a bank that is already very large, it is not likely to get bought up.  Even if it is, they are not likely to issue new check cards for so many customers because it is very expensive to do that.

    Good luck.

  2. well find a bank that has a good banking history and want send you through all this changes. a bank that have been around for so long that you know they are good and please check their rates. also follow some of the advice already given and then make a informed decision about weather to change banks or stay with your bank okay.

  3. My main bank over the past 20+ years has been bought out or merged 5 times and the only issue that came up is that once I had to add to add a 45000 prefix to my checking account number for account number on deposit slips, or routing/account number for direct transfers or deposits.

The only thing I ever have to change for e-payments from my checking account is if payee name or address changes (probably not critical for direct payments if destination acct# has not changed).

My debit card number has not changed, so the only updates needed for payments using that, is refresh expiration date when that expires.

Maybe that is different if using a bank that goes belly up (bankrupt).
