Former World Cup winner, Gordon Banks feels that the FA might have taken too long to appoint Roy Hodgson as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749’s manager and this could cause problems for the team in the future.
England’s former manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello went on to walk out of the managerial position in February. Despite that fact, the FA waited all the way until the end of April to go on and reveal that they had picked Roy Hodgson to be the next manager of the team.
Even though they eventually appointed Hodgson, Banks thinks the team took way too long to go on and reveal him as they manager and hence there are chances of him not being able to spend enough time with the team before the Euro 2012.
When talking about the FA and just how long they took to appoint the manager, Banks is quoted to have said: "It was terrible to leave it so late, I couldn't understand that at all. Why wasn't he appointed earlier?"
Banks then admitted that the team needed to improve quite a bit. Even though they beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Norway-c2974, he felt there was still a lot of room for improvement in the team.
"England didn't play very well at all on Saturday. If they are going to do anything in the tournament they will have to play better.”
"They were a little bit too defensive and I thought Roy was looking for a result which would maybe give the lads a bit of confidence," he added.
He then ended by insisting that there were not enough quality English players around at the moment and that this could prove to be a problem for the team. He feels that the younger players in the squad are decent, but the experience and quality that older
more developed players can offer, can’t be matched by anyone.
Nonetheless, given the injury scares that England have had in recent weeks, it seems like the Euro 2012 could see a number of younger players going on and proving their worth to the team, as they look to try and help the team go far in the competiton.
