Bao Chunlai and Boonsak Ponsana enter in the second round of All England Open Badminton Championship
China’s Bao Chunlai and Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana enter in the second round of the All England Open Badminton Championships 2011, after winning their first round matches at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England today. The Chinese defeated the
Indonesian shuttler, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, in straight sets, whereas the Thai player got rid of Simon Santoso - another player from Indonesia - in straight games.
Bao started the game with an incredible speed and took a stunning lead of 11-4 in the first half of the opening set. Sony completely failed to stop the attacking game of the Chinese, who was executing powerful smashes on the side lines followed by tumbling
net shots. After the one-minute break, Bao maintained the difference and finished the opening set by a big margin of 21-10 in 17 minutes.
In the second game, Sony could not play well because of his injury. The Chinese finished the second game without facing any resistance from the opponent at 21-6, in just 12 minutes. The final score of the 29-minute match was 21-10 and 21-6. In the second
round, Bao will be facing the defending champion and top seed, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who had an easy first round match against Brice Leverdez of France.
In another match of the men’s singles, Thailand’s Ponsana showed no mercy to another Indonesian shuttler, Santoso, who was the semi-finalist in the Korea Open Premier Super Series 2011, at Seoul, South Korea. In the opening game, both players delivered a
wonderful performance by keeping the speed of the match high. The score remained tight till 16-16, where Ponsana played some wonderful strokes and clinched the opening set by a slight difference of 21-19.
Simon remained unable to match the speed and accuracy of the opponent even in the second set. Till the interval, the Indonesian was trailing behind at 8-11. The Thai player accelerated the speed of the game to the maximum level to make a strong hold on the
rallies. The Indonesian had no answer to the powerful smashes of the opponent and lost the second set by a notable difference of 15-21. Ponsana won the 43-minute-long match with a 21-19 and 21-15 score on the board.
