  1. As a baptist, I would say that baptism is a very important part of our religion (Christianity), Jesus was Himself baptised, by John the Baptist. You don't necessarily HAVE to be baptised, especially if you decide on a different denomination, but no-one will judge you differently if you have been and they don't require it. If that made any sense, lol!

I was Christened as a child, but I don't believe that means anything. I had no choice at all. I have not yet been baptised as an adult, as I don't yet feel ready. It's not something you can just dive into (excuse the pun), God will let you know when the time is right for you to be baptised.

I agree with Chris, as long as you believe and have faith in The Lord and Jesus Christ, you are saved. The act of becoming baptised, in itself, will not save you.

  2. Water baptism cannot save, and water baptism is not required for salvation.  Catholicism cannot save.

Only believing the Gospel of Jesus Christ is what saves  :)

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is this:  The truth is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal h**l is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved!

Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die.  :)

  3. Brad_J,

I don't tell people about being filled with the holyghost through my religion. I go by the bible. There are different religions and backgrounds but, who's right?? Well, take up the word and read IT. I don't know what u have been taught but, the bible states that u have to repent be baptized and u shall receive the gift of the holyghost. Now, when you are filled with the holyghost u will know so, because God gave us evidence so that no one will get confused. That evidence is speaking in a different language as the holyghost gives the utterance. People refer to it as speaking in tongues. It is spoken of in Acts the first chapter, about the day of pentecost. Read, pray, and study the bible before making another move; because I feel u are serious about this and I am always willing to answer if u want it.

  4. Hi Brad,

I've not seen you here before but it's good to hear you're desiring after the Lord!

There are a few things that I would like to tell you about Christianity that are fundamental to the faith:

    1) Baptism is one of the only two sacrements (ceremonies) that Jesus commended to his disciples - the other being the Lord's Supper. Whilst the details of the ceremonies can be adapted to fit personal preferences and cultures there are some crucial aspects that must be present:

    i) The model of baptism was full immersion in water. The nature of the water is not critical (baptismal pool, river, sea, lake, swimming pool, bath etc) but there is symbolism in the full immersion nature of the baptism in that it signifies the washing away of sins and the emmergence into a new life. The majority of church denominations hod to a baptism ceremony of a kind so whether you go to a non-denominational church or a main line church you should find they baptise in the name of the Lord.

ii) There is no magic in the ceremony itself as it is an outward statement of an inward decision and it is the inward decision that is the transforming aspect of Christianity - when you let Christ into your heart.

iii) I would advocate some form of either baptismal class (or meeting with a pastor as a minimum) for you to understand fully the commitment you are making before you are baptised as there should be no sense of turning back - this should be a once for life decision.

iv) There is also no specific length of time you should be a Christian or any sense of a 'call' to be baptised. All Christians should be baptised into the name of the Lord Jesus - it was part of the great commission in Matthew 28:19-20. However the decision must be made in full knowledge of the choice you are making (hence the recommendation above).

    2) The partaking in the Lord's Supper. When Jesus ate together with his disciples at the 'last supper' he took break and broke it saying 'this is my body broken for you, eat in remembrance of me'. Similarly he took wine and passed it to his disciples saying 'this is the blood of the new covenant, drink it in remembrance of me'. Again this is ceremonial and whether it is truly bread (or crackers) and wine (or grape juice) that you partake in, the important thing is that this is done to remind yourself of the death of Christ until his return.

    3) This is important for a new Christian... Your faith isn't about sin, it is about hope - a hope in the resurrection of the dead, a hope in a life with Christ in heaven and on the New Earth, a hope of restoration to the way you were created, a hope of glory being birthed in you. Remember your hope and focus on this and then live a life that is worthy of that hope. Peter urges us in his letter to 'always be prepared to give an explanation for the HOPE we have and to do so with gentleness and respect'. You will see many people here being angry and throwing insults around accusing people of their sin. Judgement belongs to the Lord, it is our responsibility to understand our hope and to present this unclouded to those who don't believe. When they believe we can then start to train them in what it means to be righteous.

Please feel free to ask more questions and you can even email me through my profile if you want to ask anything specific.

May the Lord bless you as you continue in His word. Oh and on that note - have a look on www.biblegateway.com where you can find access to many English translations of the Bible. For simple language I can recommend the New Living Translation or the Good News Bible. The King James version is dated in the style of its English and can therefore be hard going for those who are both young in age and in the faith...

    Every Blessing my brother!

  5. You can get baptized without getting into all the details of christianity. As long as you accept God as your personal saviour and believe that Jesus rose from the dead, you can be baptized. You will be a true christian; no need to get into all that garbage that seperates the christians. So for now, get baptized and continue to live Christ-like. God will lead you into a specific religion if you feel there is a branch of christianity that you completely stand for all of the things they keep as priorities. I hope you will receive the Holy Spirit soon and God Bless =)

  6. Baptism is super critical, so make sure you're doing the correct thing.

We must all be baptized as Jesus was--He set the example after all.

John 3:5 shows how essential it is to our salvation.

    1.  Baptized by immersion to symbolize death and resurrection to a new life as a follower of Christ

    2. It must be a conscious choice on our part, Jesus was not baptized as a child, but as a choice.

    3. It must be performed by somebody with authority from God to administer the ordinances--called the priesthood, given by the laying on of hands by somebody that possesses it.

If done with these three things, then it's valid before God.  Make sure you find out if it's correct before you do it, especially the authority.  There are lots of people who claim to have it.
