Bar vs apa (rules)?

bar rules are a lot of luck. some places u have to call ball off rail off solid in corner, and 3 rail bank clean and it hits a solid but you make it a lose a turn. and some places say no safties which eliminates point of play to just luck and no skill, plus you can just intentionally scratch with 1 stripe and the incoming player has to bank at the 8 cause its behind the line and always looses. apa rules are good with ball in hand rewarding skilled players and for safety play, but bar would be better if you just called pocket only and not combos. your thoughts?

  1. most of the time bar rules are the closest to the official rules of the game. which in my opinion is the way it should be played most of the time. apa rules were made up as an equalizer so everyone has a chance to win while they are still fun I feel that they take away from the gentleman's game.

  2. ILL stay with BCA standard But nothing compares to bar rules there is no such thing they are house rules that change from bar to bar in most cases

  3. Bar rules are stupid. Why would a bunch of drunks make the most complicated rules. BIH anywhere on the table are the best rules. Another alternative that you don't see much is two foul ball in hand. Meaning if you make a bad hit (intentionally or not) your opponent can tell you to shoot again. If you make another bad hit then it's BIH.

  4. Bar rules are usually just a crock. They vary way too much from place to place and most of the time they just don't make a lot of common sense. If you're lookin' for a fight just go into a crowded bar on a saturday night and try playing a good safety or two, you'll probably find one. As far as APA rules go they seem to be okay , they're a lot like the rules we play under in our little independent league here in hick town U.S.A. , lol.  I think i would prefer BCA rules though if i had my choice. An 8 on the break is not a win or a loss and the table is always open after the break. I really like those 2 rules a lot.

  5. I don't like bar rules....seems like every place has a completely different set of rules and sometimes they make no sense at all.  I like the structure of the APA/CPA rules.  They are fair, make sense and everybody has the same chance of winning when playing with those rules.

  6. There are lots of different takes on bar rules.  I've played in leagues where you only had to call the pocket and not your shot.  You still could play dirty donkey pool though and scratch on purpose when your opponents ball is behind the head string.  And ball in hand rules are 1000 times better then bar rules.  You should be rewarded when your opponent fouls, not punished.  Good luck, and keep rackin em up!
