Barack Obama picks “Dream Team” over current U.S Olympic roster – NBA News
Barack Obama can be counted as one of those people who think that the 1992 U.S Olympic “Dream Team” would easily win over the current Olympic team.
The President of the United States of America, along with Vice President Joe Biden, was at hand at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C, where team USA played an exhibition game against Brazil. With the president sitting at court
side, USA came back from a first quarter deficit to eventually win 80-69.
Kobe Bryant, while at USA Olympic team practice in Las Vegas a few days ago, sparked a huge discussion when he said that the current Olympic team roster was so talented that it could defeat the 1992 Dream Team that won Gold Medal
in Barcelona. The comments quickly grabbed the attention of basketball fans and players alike, with many tweets flowing over the issue.
On Monday, the President joined the discussion as well when he was asked to pick a side during a half time interview with ESPN2.
"This is a generational thing. I was around in '92, I was a Bulls fan, so I've got to go with the original Dream Team,” said Obama.
“I suspect that Michael and 'Sir Charles' and others would point out they were probably never down at any point in any of their games. But this is a great team, unbelievable talent,” added the President.
Obama reached the Verizon Center and first met with members of the Women’s Basketball Team at the practice court. The Women’s team had just come off beating Brazil in an exhibition game. He greeted the players and congratulated
them on the victory, before making his way to the main court where he was received well by the crowd.
Obama is a basketball fan who has kept in touch with the sport over the years. As a native of Chicago, he is a Bulls fan, and has played basketball in high school. For his 49th birthday, he invited NBA players to the
White House for a pickup game which was followed by a Bar B Q. He also has a number of supporters in the NBA.
Players including Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul had agreed to participate in a basketball game fundraiser for Obama’s campaign last December, but the event got cancelled after the lockout ended against the run of events.
