Baran Spartacus has all the right moves in A2 race at Newcastle
In a greyhound race, a dog with the right moves can take the lead and ultimately win the race. That’s what happened at the Newcastle Greyhound Stadium on Wednesday 17 November as Baran
Spartacus used his moves to win one of several 480m A2 races on the schedule.
A great start from trap two allowed Baran Spartacus to move into the lead with an early pace. The 5-2 favourite continued to dominate throughout the duration of the race, and ran on to
win with a time of 29.56 seconds. Bransa Duffy (7-2) raced well, going wide after the start and running on to complete the race in 29.68, 1½ lengths behind the winner.
Hidden Choice (7-2) didn’t hide in this race. He enjoyed a clear run, checking in with a 29.76 finish that placed him a single length behind Bransa Duffy to earn third place.  Fourth place
went to Nee N Caoi (3-1), who moved slowly away from the pack. His finishing time of 29.78 was a neck’s length out of top-three contention.
Inspector Clueso (6-1) was on the case, looking for the elusive first-place finish. However, his early pace was not enough to propel him into the lead. He finished fifth in 29.84, ¾ lengths
behind fourth place. Ballyboley Boss (6-1) closed out the race by claiming last place. He baulked second, resulting in a loss of one length and a 29.92 finish.
A last-second surge made a big difference for Mustang Alexis (5-1), as she captured first place in the 480m A1 race that was held later on. Coming out of trap five, she raced well and
led near the finish line, finishing in 29.30. Finishing just a head’s length behind her was 5-2 favourite Mermaid Beach. An early pace allowed her to challenge Mustang Alexis for the lead, but she ended up in second place with a time of 29.31.
Target Duchess (3-1) had a clear run, and finished ¾ lengths out of second place in 29.37 as a result. Nipping at her heels was fourth-place finisher Skywalker Kitty (3-1), who went wide
early on, but had a clear run. She missed the top three by a shoulder, finishing in 29.38.
Laying claim on fifth place was Coralstown Dream (5-1). She baulked second, resulting in a loss of 8¼ lengths and a 30.04 finish. Rounding out the pack was Baby Nuggs (4-1). He also baulked
second, and went on to finish ¾ lengths behind Coralstown Dream in 30.10.
The next race meeting at Newcastle Greyhound Stadium will be held on on Thursday 18 November. The first race of the evening gets under way at 18:38.
